U2 aims to make good on shows in November

In an interview on Australian television, U2 frontman Bono said that his group plans to reschedule its recently postponed shows in that nation for sometime in November.

The group announced last week that it had called off the final 10 dates of its "Vertigo" world tour due to an illness in an unspecified band member's family. The postponed dates span from March 17 to April 8, and also include stops in New Zealand, Japan and Hawaii.

During his Monday (3/13) appearance on the Australian Broadcasting Company program "Enough Rope," Bono didn't address the group's plans for making up shows outside of Australia.

Though it has widely been speculated that the reason for U2's postponements was because U2 guitarist The Edge has a seriously ill child, Bono didn't delve into specifics.

"I can't really get into details why," Bono told interviewer Andrew Denton. "There was a lot of distress and angst and [the] good news is ... I can announce tonight we are coming back, looks like November, and that's a great relief for me."

As for the upcoming November shows, Bono said they'd be "better" than if they'd taken place at the originally scheduled times.

"It will be the only time ... we get a chance to play these songs for a long time," he said. "It will be extraordinary."

Ironically, U2 has postponed tour dates once before in its career, Bono said: a planned three-date Sydney stint in the '80s.
