Dave Matthews Band, Sheryl Crow join forces at Fenway Park
The mystery dates turn out to be a July 7-8 engagement at Boston's historic Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. Sheryl Crow --who recently was diagnosed with breast cancer--has been tapped to open both shows.
Tickets for the newly announced concerts--along with most of the other shows on the tour--go on sale to the general public on April 8. Members of DMB's Warehouse fan club will have the first crack at tickets via a pre-sale; details are available at the band's website.
Crow revealed last month that she had undergone surgery for "minimally invasive breast cancer." According to a statement issued by Interscope Records, Crow's doctors describe her prognosis as "excellent," though the singer/songwriter will receive radiation treatment as a precaution.
Following the surgery, Crow announced that she had postponed indefinitely a planned March/April tour of North America.
The Dave Matthews Band's outing--which currently comprises about 50 shows--is scheduled to open May 30 in the St. Louis area and wrap up Sept. 23 in the group's home base of Charlottesville, VA. According to a statement issued by the band's publicist, more shows will be added in the coming weeks.
O.A.R., G. Love & Special Sauce, Matisyahu, Gomez, ALO, Umphrey's McGee, Gov't Mule, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones and Pat Green are among the other acts who will rotate though the tour's opening slots, with more openers to be announced in the coming weeks. Available information is in the itinerary below.
Prior to launching the tour, DMB will play an April 29 gig at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Last year, the band spearheaded a hurricane-relief fund-raising effort that was highlighted by a special appearance at the Denver area's famed Red Rocks amphitheater, which raised more than $1.5 million for Hurricane Katrina victims.
DMB performed four nights at Red Rocks last year, a stint that was documented on the 2-CD, 1-DVD package "Weekend on the Rocks," which hit stores in November. The group's most recent studio set is 2005's "Stand Up."
