Briefly: Isaac Hayes, Young Jeezy, Tool, Adema
Soul great Isaac Hayes , who has portrayed the character Chef on the animated Comedy Central series "South Park" since 1997, says he's exiting the show due to its irreverent take on religion.
"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," said a statement issued by Hayes. "Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored. As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."
In an interview with The Associated Press, "South Park" co-creator Matt Stone said, "This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology.... He has no problem--and he's cashed plenty of checks--with our show making fun of Christians."
Last year, an episode of "South Park" took aim at the Church of Scientology and some of its famous followers, including Tom Cruise and John Travolta.
"He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin," Stone said.
Rapper Young Jeezy was arrested Saturday (3/11) in Miami Beach on two counts of carrying a concealed firearm without a permit, according to Florida news reports.
According to reports, Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Jenkins, was apparently among a group of men who were involved in a fight. Someone in the group fired shots at a passer-by who was filming the fight. Two other members of Jenkins' group were also arrested.
Tool is set to release a new album titled "10,000 Days" on May 2. The album's tracklisting is posted on the band's website.
Bobby Reeves, formerly of the Los Angeles rock band Level, has taken over the lead-singer duties for Adema . Former frontman Luke Caraccioli exited Adema last fall.
