Live pushes new album during spring tour
Veteran alt-rock quartet Live is gearing up for next month's release of its latest album, "Songs from Black Mountain," and will back the set with a spring roadtrip.
The new disc, which is the band's first new studio release since 2003's "Birds of Pray," is due in stores April 10. The Pennsylvania band will launch its support for the collection with an April 23 performance in its home state, and will then tackle a series of May shows, most of which are set in clubs and theaters. Plans also call for several festival appearances, one of which is scheduled for late July.
Tickets for many of Live's upcoming shows will hit the box office this coming weekend. Details are included in the itinerary below.
"Songs from Black Mountain" marks Live's first release for Epic Records, with whom the group signed after parting with its longtime label, Geffen. The group's final Geffen release is the 2004 compilation "Awake: The Best of Live."
"It was such a cathartic experience putting together our greatest hits because it reminded us of where we came from and gave us a clear idea of what we've grown into as a band," singer and chief songwriter Ed Kowalczyk said in a statement. "Now that we've signed with our new label, Epic, it really feels like we've closed a chapter and with this new record are starting over."
Live recorded all 12 cuts on "Songs from Black Mountain" during a three-week stretch last May with producer Jim Wirt (Incubus, Hoobastank).
"We haven't recorded that quickly since [1994's] 'Throwing Copper,'" Kowalczyk said. "When we got in the studio, we all slipped into the zone. We were working hard, but we were completely at ease, open to each other and in the flow. Everyone was awestruck by not only how fast we were recording, but also by how good it sounded."
The first single from "Songs from Black Mountain," is streaming at Epic's Live website.
