3 Doors Down, Lynyrd Skynyrd plot gigs
New Southern rock meets old Southern rock this summer when 3 Doors Down and Lynyrd Skynyrd hit the road together for a series of co-headlining shows.
Dubbed the "Double Trouble Summer Tour," the 15-city outing kicks off in late June. Details are included below.
"We've been trying to go on the road with these guys for a while," Lynyrd Skynyrd lead singer Johnny Van Zant said in a statement. "We've done a few events together, but our schedules haven't worked out before now. We're excited about these shows."
"It's going to be an honor to share the same stage with these guys every night,” 3 Doors Down lead singer Brad Arnold added. "Like so many others, I grew up listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd. We've been friends with the guys for years, so it's going to be great to finally get to tour together."
3 Doors Down is backing its latest album, "Seventeen Days," which surfaced in early 2005. The set--which features the cut "Let Me Go"--moved about 231,000 copies during its first week in stores, earning it a No. 1 debut on The Billboard 200 album chart.
Lynyrd Skynyrd--which earlier this month was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame--issued its most recent studio set, "Vicious Cycle," in 2003. That same year also saw the release of "Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve," a double album and companion DVD that features the group's 2003 performance at the Nashville-area's Amsouth Amphitheatre.
Also in 2003, Skynyrd offered up a best-of set titled "Thyrty," which marked the group's 30th anniversary.
