Santana's Summer Touring Plans Take Shape
Santana 's camp has revealed plans for the opening leg of North American summer amphitheater tour by the Grammy-dominating Latin rocker. The leg, which opens on July 20 in West Palm Beach, Fla., will run for a month and cover the eastern U.S., as well as parts of the Midwest and Canada.
According to Santana's website, a second leg--tentatively set to run from late September to late October--will cover additional Midwestern markets as well as the West. The band will tour Japan and Europe this spring.
Ticket onsale dates had been announced for only two of the tour's North American stops--Cincinnati and Virginia Beach, Va.--by press time. Tickets for both of the shows will go on sale Saturday (3/4).
Santana 's "Supernatural" album got a sales boost of 166% after it spawned nine Grammy Awards last week. The album, which is at No. 1 on the U.S. album charts, sold more than 1.1 million copies worldwide during the week following the Grammys, including 583,071 in the U.S., according to Arista Records. The label claims that the spike is the greatest post-Grammy sales increase in history.
The album is certified nine times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, and Arista claims that the album has sold 13 million copies worldwide.
"Supernatural" now sits at No. 1 on the album charts in several European countries, including Germany, France, Switzerland, Norway, Finland, Greece, Spain and Portugal. It's also the No. 1 album in Canada and Mexico, according to Arista.
