Gomez confirms US tour plans, new album due
British rockers Gomez have revealed the first set of dates in what the band plans to stretch into a two-month US tour, as they get ready to support their new album, "How We Operate," which hits stores May 2.
The first part of the band's tour is currently set, with the group landing May 3 in Ashville, NC, the first of 16 dates on the tour's first leg, which runs through May 27.
A second leg is expected to be filled in as the tour progresses, although a few dates have already been confirmed, including a June 17 appearance at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, TN, and two nights in Camden, NJ, beginning June 27, where the band will open for The Dave Matthews Band.
The Bonnaroo festival will feature performances by Radiohead, Beck and others. More information can be found at the festival's official website.
"How We Operate" is the Gomez's fifth studio album. Produced by Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters), it follows 2004's "Split the Difference." The group also released a live album in the interim, last year's "Out West."
"What was interesting to me about making this album," producer Norton said in a press release, "is that Gomez had never done pre-production on any of their previous albums so we got together in a room to really work out each song before we recorded them in the studio."
Three of the band's five members--vocalist/guitarists Ben Ottewell, Tom Gray and Ian Ball--previewed the new album by playing acoustic sets in various US cities during March. The three, along with their two other Gomez bandmates, also made a March appearance in March at the SXSW music festival in Austin, TX, where they played some of the new material.
