Madonna, Elton John, others join Music Rising benefit auctions
Madonna , Celine Dion, Elton John , Staind and Gretchen Wilson are among the artists who have signed on for ticket auctions that will benefit musicians affected by last year's Gulf Coast hurricanes.
INXS , Toby Keith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bonnie Raitt and Ozomatli have also joined the effort, which, as previously reported, includes Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Queensryche, Melissa Etheridge, Sammy Hagar, Ben Harper, Def Leppard and Journey, Brad Paisley, The New Cars and Blondie, and more.
Throughout the month of April, fans who visit the Music Rising auction website can bid on tickets to performances by many of the aforementioned artists, as well as others--over 100 acts in all--who are assisting in the relief effort.
The majority of the auctions include four premium-location tickets for venues with reserved seating (general admission tickets for general admission events) and one Epiphone guitar provided by Gibson Guitar, which, for most auctions will be autographed by one or more of the show's performers, according to a press release.
The Music Rising effort teams the artists with Ticketmaster, four of the nation's largest concert promoters (Live Nation, House of Blues, AEG Live and Nederlander Concerts) and Gibson Guitar. (Ticketmaster is LiveDaily's parent company.)
Net proceeds from the auctions--more than 65 of which are already underway--will be directed to Music Rising. Organizers will roll out a new batch of auctions each week in April.
Founded by U2's The Edge, renowned music producer Bob Ezrin and Gibson Guitar CEO Henry Juskiewicz, Music Rising replaces instruments and equipment that Gulf Coast musicians lost due to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
"The Central Gulf Coast region has one of the most vibrant music cultures in the world," The Edge said in a statement. "That culture was almost eradicated in the storms of last summer. ... Ticketmaster's Music Rising Auctions offer us a way to come together as musicians, as an industry and as fans of every genre of music to make a difference."
