First leg of Tom Petty's tour to feature Pearl Jam, Trey Anastasio
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have confirmed the first round of dates for their 2006 summer tour, which includes several guest appearances by Trey Anastasio , as well as previously announced shows with Pearl Jam .
The first leg gets underway June 9 in Charlotte, NC, with a show that will feature Anastasio. The ex-Phish frontman will appear with Petty and his band on all but a June 16 headlining slot at Tennessee's Bonnaroo Festival, leading up to Petty's six-night run with Pearl Jam, which begins June 26 in St. Paul, MN. Details are shown below.
A second leg--featuring The Allman Brothers Band as special guests--will follow in July and August, according to the tour's organizers, and will conclude with a third and final stretch in September and October, which is also expected to include guest performers along the way.
Petty's website is offering updates on upcoming special guests as well as ticket presales for selected events.
This is the second year in a row that Petty and the Heartbreakers have launched a major tour without new product to promote, although this should change soon when Petty releases his forthcoming third solo album, "Highway Companion."
Petty is "putting the finishing touches" on the album, according to a press release. Jeff Lynne is producing the disc, with Petty and Heartbreaker Mike Campbell assisting with the production.
