Mark Knopfler, Emmylou Harris team for tour
Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris have announced a series of concert dates for late June, with the pair supporting their upcoming album of duets, "All the Roadrunning," which is due in stores April 24.
Knopfler, former lead singer and guitarist for Dire Straits, and country legend Harris will undertake a European tour before hitting the nine-city North American portion of their itinerary (shown below), which launches June 19 in Toronto. The pair's full European itinerary can be found at Knopfler's website.
Knopfler and Harris spent seven years working on "All the Roadrunning," recording bits and pieces one at a time. "
"We put it together by stealing a few precious hours of studio time here and there"," Knopfler said in a press release.
Knopfler also described first meeting Harris during the taping of a Chet Atkins television special. "
"Emmylou's respect and affection for the players and the music struck me then and still does. In my writing, I'd been dealing a fair bit with the male/female shape. With that amazing voice, Emmylou, now more than ever, seems to capture a kind of universal female experience, something that speaks to all ages."
""Making this album was a pure joy," added Harris. "Being surrounded by extraordinary musicians and guided by one of the great artists of our time. Truly it is a gift for which I will always be grateful"."
Knopfler released his fourth solo album, "Shangri La," in 2004. Harris's last album, "Stumble Into Grace," was released in 2003.
