Briefly: David Lee Roth, Smashing Pumpkins, Extreme, Coheed and Cambria
David Lee Roth 's stint as Howard Stern's replacement is officially over, the former Van Halen frontman announced on his program Friday (4/21) morning.
"It's official: today is my last day," Roth told listeners shortly after his shown began at 6 a.m. "I was booted, tossed and it's going to cost somebody." Roth reportedly had signed a $4 million contract with CBS Radio to take over the morning slot previously occupied by Howard Stern. His show, dubbed Roth Radio, debuted less that four months ago.
The Smashing Pumpkins , who called it quits back in 2000, are "currently writing songs for the upcoming album," according to a message posted at the group's website. The group plans to hit the recording studio this summer, but no release date has been set.
The four original members of Extreme --singer Gary Cherone, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, bassist Pat Badger and drummer Paul Geary--have announced a second reunion concert, set for July 2 at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. Last week, the group--which disbanded in 1996--announced plans for a June 30 concert at Boston's Bank of America Pavilion.
Rockers Coheed and Cambria have posted an acoustic version of their song "A Favor House Atlantic" at their MySpace.com website. The track, which was recently recorded in the UK, will soon be available on iTunes, along with three other cuts, according to a press release.
