Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young reunite for tour

On-again, off-again supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young will reconvene this summer for their first tour since 2002.

David Crosby, Steven Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young will launch their "Freedom of Speech '06" trek July 6 in the Philadelphia area, and dates are currently set through mid-September.

The tour--which won't feature an opening act--will spotlight classic CSNY songs and favorites from each group member's solo career, as well as selections from Young's newly announced, forthcoming album, "Living with War," which is already gaining press for its political bent.

"This album is about exchanging ideas," Young, 60, told CNN in an interview last week. "It's about getting a message out. It's about empowering people by giving them a voice. I know not everyone believes what I say is what they think, but red and blue is not black and white. We're all together. It's a record about unification."

The 10-song album, described by Young as a "metal-folk protest," will be released as a digital download album on April 28, when it will also be available for streaming via his official website.

According to Reprise Records, the CD version of the album "will be sent to retail outlets as soon as copies can be manufactured in early May." Singer/guitarist Young recorded the set over a two-week period with Chad Cromwell on drums, Rick Rosas on bass and Tommy Bray on trumpet, along with a 100-member choir. In a recent interview with a British newspaper, one choir member said the recording session was "like being at a 12-hour peace rally."

According to a press release, "All four members of CSNY ... believe that in light of the current environment, it's time for them to be out on the road fighting for America, and for people's rights to stand and be counted."

The preliminary itinerary is below; more dates will be announced, according to concert promoter The Next Adventure. Tickets will begin to roll out this coming weekend, and additional on-sale announcements will follow in the coming weeks.

Members of the CSNY fan club will have access to a ticket pre-sale period prior to the public on-sale dates, according to a press release. Details are posted at the group's website.

The veteran rock group has split and regrouped several times since the release of the first CSNY album, "Deja Vu," in 1970. In 2000, the foursome reunited for their first tour since 1974, and followed up with another tour in 2002.

Though the 1974 stadium tour was considered very successful from a ticket sales standpoint, tensions between the group were obvious; Young even traveled separately from the rest of the group. In recent years, group members have said that they have mellowed with age, and that the relationships within the band are no longer as volatile.
