311 taps The Wailers, Pepper for summer tour
311 has unfurled the itinerary for a summer roadtrip that will also feature fellow rock-reggae outfit Pepper and legendary Jamaican reggae band The Wailers .
Plans currently call for the coast-to-coast trek to get underway in late July, and a full battery of shows stretches into early September. Details are included below.
The Wailers --best known as late reggae legend Bob Marley's backing band--will be "playing all the Bob Marley classics," according to a tour announcement posted at 311 's website. The group's lineup features original members Aston Barrett (bass), Junior Marvin (lead guitar), Al Anderson (lead guitar) and Chico (trumpet), as well as post-Marley members Gary Pine (lead vocals), Drummy (drums), Keith Sterling (keyboards), and backing vocalists Roxanne Prince and Marsha Scott Hines.
Pepper , whose members hail from Hawaii and San Diego, will hit the stage first during the upcoming tour. The group's new album, which is due out in August, features six songs that 311 frontman Nick Hexum produced.
311 continues to back its eighth album, "Don't Tread on Me," which surfaced last August and debuted at No. 5 on The Billboard 200 album chart. The set follows the group's previous studio set, 2003's "Evolver," and its 2004 best-of collection, "Greatest Hits."
