Bowling for Soup preps for big summer tour

Texas punk-pop outfit Bowling for Soup will launch a major tour later this month, with California indie rockers Army of Freshmen in tow.

The raucous Texans, who continue to support last year's "Bowling for Soup Goes to the Movies," will kick off a two-month, 40-city trek June 22 in Austin, TX. The tour will wind throughout the country, scouring both coasts before ending up somewhere in the middle with an Aug. 27 finale in Denver.

In addition to the band's dates with fellow pop-punkers Army of Freshmen (whose new album, "Under the Rader," hits stores later this year), Bowling for Soup will tackle a number of previously scheduled dates on their own, mostly at fairs and theme parks, including a June 24 show at Dixie Landin' Theme Park in Baton Rouge.

"Goes to the Movies" features Bowling for Soup's takes on the "Jimmy Neutron Theme," Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" (from "Freaky Friday"), Modern English's "I Melt with You," the "Gilligan's Island Theme" and Matthew Sweet's "Sick of Myself." The album was produced by Casey Dilorio, Jonathan McEuen and the band's vocalist/guitarist, Jaret Reddick.

Bowling for Soup was formed in 1994 in Wichita Falls, TX, but didn't achieve breakthrough success until 2002's "Drunk Enough to Dance" and it's Grammy-nominated single "Girl All the Bad Guys Want."

The group followed that with 2004's "Hangover You Don't Deserve," which spawned another novelty hit, "1985."
