Chevelle forges on with new bassist, maps more shows

Chevelle --a brother trio until bassist Joe Loeffler jumped ship last month--are carrying on with their summer tour plans, and have lined up a new round of fall shows.

After wrapping up the first leg of its tour later this month, the group takes a short break before returning to the road in mid-September and tackling a second leg that stretches into late October. Details are included below.

Remaining Loeffler brothers Pete (vocals/guitar) and Sam (drums) have tapped former Filter bassist Geno Lenardo to take over for their departed brother during the current tour.

"We've spent 10 great years building Chevelle, but irreconcilable differences have led to an unfortunate parting of ways between Joe and the band," Pete and Sam Loeffler said in a statement issued late last month.

"This will be positive for me and my brothers," Joe Loeffler added. "I'm looking forward to all of the new opportunities this will make available to me."

Pete and Sam Loeffler plan to follow their current tour with writing sessions for a new album. No word yet on whether Lenardo will be the group's permanent bassist.

Chevelle is on the road behind its 2004 set, "This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In)." The album features the group's latest single, "Clincher," which also appears in the EA Sports video game "Madden NFL 2005." The song is streaming at the band's website.

An updated version of "The Clincher"--dubbed "The Clincher (Version 103)"--turns up on the DualDisc version of "This Type of Thinking," which Epic released in late March. The DualDisc also features enhanced sound and a 25-minute behind-the-scenes documentary, according to the label.
