Coachella headliners include a reunited Rage
Rage Against the Machine will reunite for this year's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, which is set for April 27-29 at Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA. The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bjork have also been tapped to headline the event.
This year, Coachella's eighth, will be the first time the fest expands to three days, meaning a bigger pool of eclectic artists will play on multiple stages. More than 100 acts have already been announced, and more will be added in the coming months. The preliminary lineup is listed below. Exact dates and times for the acts will be announced later.
Rumors have been swirling that The Police will reunite for the event, but nothing has been confirmed so far. In addition to Rage, Coachella has inspired several bands to reunite in the past, including the Pixies, Iggy Pop and The Stooges, and Siouxsie & the Banshees.
Another reunion that's set for this year's Coachella is Crowded House , a group that's been inactive since 1996. The group, led by brothers Neil and Tim Finn, reportedly is auditioning drummers; Crowded House drummer Paul Hester committed suicide in 2005.
Tickets for Coachella go on sale Jan. 27 via Ticketmaster outlets. (Ticketmaster is LiveDaily's parent company.) General admission tickets are $249 for a three-day pass and a limited number of single-day passes will be available for $85. Concertgoers will also be charged $1 per day for charity. Parking is free.
Camping is available for those 18 and over. A four-night stay (April 26-30) costs $45. The camping facilities, which are adjacent to the festival grounds, include a general store, food court, restrooms, showers and shade areas.
More information and updates can be found at Coachella's website.
Last year's Coachella brought in more than 80 acts on five stages (including Madonna in the Sahara Tent) and attracted more than 110,000 people, according to The Desert Sun. Last year also saw the release of a Coachella double-disc DVD featuring performances and interviews from the first six events.
