Danko Jones takes summer swing through the states
With their latest single grabbing traction at rock radio stations throughout the U.S., Canadian trio Danko Jones will pay their neighbors to the south another visit this summer.
The group, which mounted its first full-fledged U.S. trek this spring, launches its latest trip through the country with a July 15 concert in Albany, NY, and is currently scheduled to wrap things up in mid-August. Details are included below.
Already an established act in Europe, Danko Jones has been making inroads in the states with its U.S. debut, "We Sweat Blood." Originally released abroad in 2003, the set surfaced here in April.
Among the album's cuts is the single, "Lovercall," one of two bonus tracks on the U.S. version of "We Sweat Blood" that first turned up on the group's 2002 full-length, "Born a Lion." The song is in rotation at radio stations in Detroit, Cleveland, Nashville, Colorado Springs, Little Rock, West Palm Beach and elsewhere, and has been a Top 10 request at rock radio stations in Buffalo, Denver and Philadelphia, where it earned the band a headlining slot at Philadelphia station WYSP's annual Babefest event last month.
"No matter how good you are, when you're playing with a bunch of girls in bikinis and lingerie, you always run the risk of getting booed," the band's namesake and frontman/guitarist Danko Jones said in the latest podcast posted at the group's website. "Surprisingly, we did not get booed ... which was like the equivalent of getting three encores, because it seems it's been somewhat of a loose tradition to boo the bands playing Babefest. So, the fact that we didn't get booed--in fact, that we got cheered on--and everybody was into it and there was an actual mosh-pit at the end of the set was like getting three encores. It was great."
Jones went on to say that he and his bandmates--bassist John "JC" Calabrese and drummer Damon Richardson--are just about finished making their follow-up to "We Sweat Blood." No release date has been announced.
