Depeche Mode unveils North American tour dates
Veteran electronic-music trio Depeche Mode will follow the October release of its first new album in four years with a run on the North American arena circuit.
The group's trek begins Nov. 2 in Ft. Lauderdale, and dates stretch into early December. The itinerary is included below.
A European tour will follow in early 2006. Details are available at the band's website.
The tour supports the trio's follow-up to 2001's "Exciter." Titled "Playing the Angel," the new album is due in stores Oct. 18, and features the single "Precious," which is scheduled for release in the U.S. on Oct. 4. The cut is currently available as a digital download via a number of online music retailers.
"Playing the Angel" is the first Depeche Mode album to feature songwriting credits for lead singer David Gahan. Gahan--who "was encouraged by the reaction to his debut solo album 'Paper Monsters' (2003)," according to a press release--penned three of the tracks, while chief songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Martin Gore handled the set's other nine numbers.
Depeche Mode--Gahan, Gore and keyboardist Andrew Fletcher--recorded "Playing the Angel" in Santa Barbara, New York and London with producer Ben Hiller (Doves, Blur).
"You have to work hard at reinventing yourself, so you have to choose new people who push you," Gahan said in a statement. "Ben Hillier has brought a whole new dynamic to the group which is quite inspiring. It's better being in Depeche Mode now than it has been for 15 years."
