Gipsy Kings book summer jaunt
France's Gipsy Kings will reign over amphitheaters this summer as they embark on a tour that will visit about 20 North American cities.
The jaunt, which runs throughout July, includes multiple-night stands in Niagara Falls, Ontario; and in the California cities of Los Angeles, Saratoga and Alpine.
According to the Gipsy Kings' website, the non-English-speaking band (the group's language is the gypsy dialect of gitane) is the biggest-selling French act in history.
The latest Gipsy Kings album is 2004's Grammy-nominated acoustic release "Roots." The group recorded the set with producer Craig Street in a stone villa in St-Andre-de-Bueges in the south of France with producer Craig Street. No drum kits, synthesizers or electric bass was used on the album, allowing the band to tap into its flamenco roots.
