'Hey Dude': Beatallica hits the road
Fab Four fans might freak and metal-heads could cringe as Beatallica mashes up two great sounds that (hopefully) go great together on a short tour that gets underway in late November.
The Milwaukee-based band, which blends The Beatles and Metallica with songs such as "Hey Dude," "I Want to Choke Your Band" and "Leper Madonna," kicks off the trek on Nov. 28 in Columbus, OH, and continues perplexing music fans in the Midwest and Northeast through Dec. 10. The full tour itinerary is listed below.
Working under the aliases of Jamz Lennfield, Kirk Hammettson, Kliff McBurtney and Ringo Larz, the Beatallica guys have been amusing open-minded fans of both beloved groups ever since they released "A Garage Dayz Nite" via the Internet in 2002. They have since followed that effort with another web-only release, "The Gray Album," which was released--appropriately enough--on April Fools' Day 2004.
Beatallica's music is distributed through the band's website, where fans can download such tracks as "Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band" and "Everybody's Got a Ticket to Ride Except for Me and My Lightning" for free. To date, the website boasts more than 500,000 hits and innumerable downloads.
Although there's been no word from Paul McCartney or Ringo Starr about their feelings on the project, the Metallica guys seem to be fans of the band. According to a press release, when Sony/ATV Publishing (who controls The Beatles' repertoire) served Beatallica with a cease-and-desist order, Lars Ulrich of Metallica stepped in and had Metallica's lawyers convince Sony to withdraw the order.
