Jamie Foxx to launch major arena tour
Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx will continue his surprising transformation into chart-topping soul singer when he kicks off tan arena tour later this month.
The tour, timed to coincide with the Christmas release of Foxx's new movie, "Dreamgirls," co-starring Beyonce Knowles, will kick off Dec. 26 in San Diego, CA. The first leg of what is expected to grow to a 30-date outing, according to the trek's promoters, will span 12 dates through early February.
"American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino will open several of Foxx's initial shows, including a Dec. 29 performance in Sacramento, and a New Year's Eve show in Oakland, CA.
All shows on the itinerary are currently on sale. Foxx's fan-club members can receive priority seating through the tour's website.
According to organizers, Foxx's performances "will be a combination of songs and comedy." The performer began his career in show business as a stand-up comedian.
Foxx, who received the Best Actor Academy Award in 2005 for his lead role in "Ray," released the hugely popular album "Unpredictable" late last year. The album topped the Billboard R&B charts for five weeks in 2006 and sold more than one million copies in its first 20 days on the shelves, according to a press release.
Foxx was nominated for two Grammy awards earlier this year, and took home the prize for Favorite Male Soul/R&B Artist at October's 34th Annual American Music Awards.
