Jem embarks on inaugural headlining run this fall
After having spent part of the summer opening stadium shows for the Dave Matthews Band and performing at major festivals, singer/songwriter Jem will launch her own headlining club tour in October.
The trek starts with an Oct. 13 radio-station show in Cincinnati, OH, and then moves to the West Coast before crossing the country, ending on Nov. 10 in Hartford, CT. Dates are included below.
The Welsh songstress is touring in support of her debut release, "Finally Woken," which has already gone platinum in her native U.K. The album's first single, "They," was quickly embraced by radio stations around the globe, and its companion video was an international hit on MTV's network of stations. The vocalist has recently released a second single, "Just a Ride," in the U.S.
The singer--whose full name is Jemma Griffiths--first made waves in the states when "Nothing Fails," a track she co-wrote with producer Guy Sigsworth, was recorded by Madonna on the Material Girl's 2003 CD, "American Life."
After moving from London to New York in 2002, the aspiring singer-songwriter recorded some demos that were good enough to garner label interest. She eventually signed with Dave Matthew's ATO label, which released "Finally Woken" last year.
Television has played a major role in Jem's early success. Besides receiving generous support from MTV, the singer also performed on the 2004 season finale of "The O.C." and was included on that show's first two soundtracks. Additionally, her song "Come on Closer" was featured in the TV promo spots for "Desperate Housewives," as is “Just a Ride” for the new season of "Grey’s Anatomy."
Jem was recently nominated in the Best New Act category for the 2005 Q Awards, which will be held in London next month.
