Jurassic 5 ready for album release, summer tour
Jurassic 5 is gearing up for next month's release of "Feedback," the rap outfit's first album in four years, and will support it with a run on the club and theater circuit.
The group launches the tour July 18 in Seattle, and stops are planned in roughly 40 cities by mid-September. The schedule primarily comprises headlining dates, though the group will also open an Aug. 15 Philadelphia concert for 311, and will share the stage with a lengthy roster of acts--including 311, Dropkick Murphys, G. Love & Special Sauce, The Wailers, Pepper and more--at the Aug. 20 Download Festival in Massachusetts. Details are included below.
"Feedback," Jurassic 5's fourth album, follows 2002's "Power in Numbers." Nu-Mark, one of the group's two DJs, handled most of the production duties on the new set, including the cut "Where We At," which features a guest vocal from rapper Mos Def.
"I think it shows a lot of growth, and I think that we're hitting topics that we've never hit before and a style of music that we've never tried to accomplish before," Nu-Mark said in a statement. "We just try to outmatch each other. We don't really try to compare ourselves to the industry. We just think about how can we one up the last album."
This week, Interscope Records delivered the new album's first single, "Work It Out," to radio stations.
Jurassic 5--MCs Chali 2na, Zaakir (Soup), Akil and Marc 7 and DJs Cut Chemist and Nu-Mark--came out of the L.A. underground scene in the early '90s. The group formed when the separate acts Rebels of Rhythm and Unity Committee joined forces to create a single lineup.
