Live delivers on the road this summer

Veteran alt-rockers Live hit the road next week for a summer tour that backs their new album, "Songs from Black Mountain."

The group gets things underway with a week-long run through Canada that launches July 12 in Ontario, then heads south to the US for a string of shows that stretch into mid-August. The schedule, which features a mix of headlining and festival dates, also includes a lone October stop. Details are shown below.

Released in April, "Songs from Black Mountain" is Live's first new studio release since 2003's "Birds of Pray," and is also the band's inaugural album for Epic Records, with whom the group signed after parting with its longtime label, Geffen. The group's final Geffen release is the 2004 compilation "Awake: The Best of Live."

Live recorded all 12 cuts on "Songs from Black Mountain" during a three-week stretch last May with producer Jim Wirt (Incubus, Hoobastank). The set features the first single, "The River."

"This song probably has the most memorable melody we've ever recorded, Kowalczyk said of "The River" in a press release. "I really like how were using something so catchy to convey these abstract lyrical ideas I have about songwriting. When I sit down to write a song, I always feel like I'm wading into a river where a nurturing female presence guides me and pushes me along when I need it."

"The River" is streaming at Epic's Live website.
