Minus 5, Robyn Hitchcock team up for short tour
British pop singer/guitarist Robyn Hitchcock will join with ragtag pop collective The Minus 5 for a short West Coast tour starting in late February.
The co-headlining trek will kick off Feb. 23 in San Diego and crawl northwards through a total of seven cities, eventually winding up March 4 in Seattle.
The Minus 5 has also announced an appearance at the upcoming SXSW Festival in Austin, TX, during the Yep Roc showcase, although a definite date for the performance has not been set.
Led by Young Fresh Fellows frontman Scott McCaughey, The Minus 5 was formed in 1993 as a loose collective, with an ever-changing lineup of members. With the upcoming "The Gun Album," set for release Feb. 7, the band will mark its seventh studio album, with McCaughey being the only constant figure in all seven releases.
Aside from McCaughey, the latest recorded incarnation of The Minus 5 includes Peter Buck from R.E.M., Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, John Stirrat and Glenn Kotche, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists and a host of other performers.
Hitchcock's most recent studio album, 2004's "Spooked," was the 17th album in his long solo career, which began when the former vocalist for The Soft Boys released "Black Snake Diamond Role" in 1981.
McCaughey and Hitchcock opened Tweedy's Nov. 22 show in London, performing as a duo billed as Red Locust Frenzy.
