Morrissey to embark on US jaunt
British alt-rock icon Morrissey is set to launch a major US tour next month, according to webzine True To You, a publication endorsed by the singer/songwriter.
The 40-date trek will hit theaters all over the US starting with an April 27 gig in Stockton, CA, followed by a two-nighter in Sparks, NV. Alternative singer/songwriter Kristeen Young will fill the support slot.
A good chunk of the itinerary has been unveiled at the True To You website and more dates are said to be on the way. Shows on the books so far are listed below.
Ticket sales start this Saturday (3/17), according to the webzine.
Morrissey, who rose to prominence in the '80s as the vocalist for influential British band The Smiths, released his eighth solo album, "Ringleader of the Tormentors," last April. The set, recorded in Rome with producer Tony Visconti (T-Rex, David Bowie), followed 2004's "You Are The Quarry."
A bio at Morrissey's MySpace page calls "Ringleader" "the most musically disturbing record Morrissey has made since The Smiths' second album, 'Meat is Murder,'" while also deeming it somewhat more happy than his past works. The album also marks the first time the performer, who has previously taken a vow of celibacy, sings graphically about sex.
A few songs from the set are streaming at Morrissey's MySpace page, where the full album is available for download.
