Ray Davies readies benefit EP, first solo CD

Ray Davies fans will have something to be thankful for when the former Kinks leader releases a special benefit EP in late November.

The five-song set, entitled "Thanksgiving Day," is scheduled to land in stores Nov. 22. All net proceeds raised by the EP will benefit New Orleans music education programs. The work immediately precedes the eagerly anticipated release of Davies' first-ever solo album, "Other People's Lives," which is due Feb. 7.

For those looking for a sneak peak at Davies' latest batch of songs, the EP's title track will be available to download via iTunes beginning Nov. 15.

"After recording my first batch of demos for my solo album, I visited the U.S. in 1999 and started writing more songs for the project," Davies said in a press release regarding the inspiration "Thanksgiving Day." "I had been invited to several Thanksgiving dinners in this time, one of which was with a family in New England. What struck me was that it was more like the family Christmas I enjoyed as a child growing up in London."

Along with two unique mixes of the title track, the EP will feature a second new Davies composition, "Yours Truly, Confused N10," which was originally recorded in 2002 with Jools Holland and his Rhythm &
Blues Orchestra. "Thanksgiving Day" will also feature a new mix of "London Song," a tune that first saw the light of day on Davies' 1998 "The Storyteller," as well as that album's title track.

To celebrate the EP's release, Davies will perform Nov. 24—-Thanksgiving Day—-on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." The rock icon will then led his new band in concert at the Supper Club in New York on Nov. 28.
