Social Distortion to ride 'Greatest Hits" on summer club tour
Southern California punk veterans Social Distortion have announced dates for a summer headlining tour in the wake of their just-completed spring tour.
The band--which will release its first-ever greatest-hits compilation later this summer--will dust off a few appearances at radio station-sponsored festivals in California before digging into its next round of headlining dates, which kick off June 29 in Urbana, IL. The group has 13 cities lined up on the mid-summer tour, with fellow punk rockers The Hangmen and The Heart Attacks slated for opening duties. Details are included below.
Social Distortion recorded one new song for its upcoming "Greatest Hits," which is due for a June 26 release on the Time Bomb label. The brand new "Far Behind" will be the leadoff single from the 11-track collection, which includes highlights of every era from Social Distortion's three-decade career.
The band's most recent studio album, 2004's "Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll" was Social D's first recording without founding guitarist Dennis Danell, who died of a brain aneurysm in 2000. Jonny Wickersham has since taken over guitar duties.
Frontman/songwriter Mike Ness is the only constant member of the band. The current lineup includes drummer Charlie Quintana, who replaced Chuck Biscuits in 2000, and bassist Brent Harding, who replaced 20-year veteran John Maurer.
Ness formed Social Distortion in 1979. Five years later, the band's "Another State of Mind" was one of the few punk videos to air on MTV, according to Social D's website. The band scored mainstream success in the '90s with the singles "Ball and Chain," "Story of My Life" and "I Was Wrong."
