Son Volt prepares to take 'Search' on road

With a new studio album, "The Search," on the way and another revamped lineup in place, indie rockers Son Volt will launch a headlining tour in March.
Now sporting keyboardist Derry deBorja as a permanent member, the band (guitarist/vocalist Jay Farrar, guitarist Brad Rice, bassist Andrew Duplantis, drummer Dave Bryson) will kick off its 19-date run March 26 in Bellingham, WA.
"The Search," due for a March 6 release, is the fifth album to bear Son Volt's name, and second since frontman Farrar resurrected the band with last year's "Okemah and the Melody of Riot," which featured a completely new lineup from previous Son Volt incarnations.
Farrar--a founding member of Uncle Tupelo with Jeff Tweedy, who went on to form Wilco--embarked on a busy solo career after the band's split, releasing two studio albums, an EP and a live album while touring frequently. He began to reconsider the Son Volt option out of a desire to return to a more rock-oriented sound after the mostly acoustic tones of his solo work, according to a press release.
"The solo stuff had a liberating effect out of just doing something different for several years. But ultimately, I felt getting back to Son Volt was something that had to happen," Farrar said in a press release.
