Tenacious D cranks out film, soundtrack, tour
Rock-and-roll comedians Jack Black and Kyle Gass--a.k.a. Tenacious D --are gearing up for a busy fall that will see the duo release its first feature film and accompanying soundtrack, and mount a US tour to support the project.
Titled "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny," the new flick--which includes cameos by Meatloaf and Ronnie James Dio--arrives in theaters Nov. 17, while the soundtrack of the same name hits shelves Nov. 14. Produced by the Dust Brothers and mixed by Ken Andrews (A Perfect Circle), the album features a guest appearance from longtime Tenacious D cohort and drummer Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), as well as bassist John Spiker and guitarist John Konesky.
The "Pick of Destiny" title track is streaming at Tenacious D's website.
The same day "The Pick of Destiny" hits the silver screen, Black and Gass launch their nine-city tour with the first of two back-to-back shows at the Los Angeles-area's Gibson Amphitheater. Details are included below.
Tickets for the tour are currently available via an exclusive, online presale offered by LiveDaily and Ticketmaster. (Ticketmaster is LiveDaily's parent company.)
"The Pick of Destiny" soundtrack follows Tenacious D's 2001 self-titled debut, which the Dust Brothers also helmed, and on which Grohl also appeared.
Tenacious D was introduced to a national audience via its late '90s appearances on HBO. Black has since starred or co-starred in a number of feature films, including "High Fidelity," "Shallow Hal," "Orange County" and "School of Rock." More recently, Black hosted the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards; Gass also appeared at the ceremony.
