Toad the Wet Sprocket to tour this summer

Toad the Wet Sprocket frontman Glen Phillips will lead the group this summer during its first tour in years, and will also back his own forthcoming album with a number of solo acoustic shows.

Phillips' roadwork begins in early May with a round of solo engagements, followed by a June schedule that features a mix of solo dates and Toad the Wet Sprocket performances.

In July, Toad the Wet Sprocket will team up with Big Head Todd & The Monsters for a series of concerts that stretches into late August, and will feature a solo opening set from Phillips. Details are included below.

"It's been inferred that this [Toad the Wet Sprocket outing] is a reunion tour, but it's not," Phillips said in a statement. "The idea stemmed from the continued support of our loyal fans. I get asked all the time when the next tour will be, and figured it was time to say 'this summer' instead of 'I don't know.' It should be good fun for all involved."

"Mr. Lemons," Phillips' fourth solo disc, is due in stores May 2. The set follows last year's "Winter Pays for Summer."

Toad the Wet Sprocket--Phillips, guitarist Todd Nichols, bassist Dean Dinning and drummer Randy Guss--formed in 1986, and broke through to the mainstream in the early '90s with the Top 40 singles "All I Want," "Walk on the Ocean" and "Fall Down," and the platinum albums "Fear" and "Dulcinea." The group has been defunct since 1998.
