Trachtenburg Family hits road behind new DVD
The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players will bring their quirky act to audiences throughout the US during a late-summer tour that supports the trio's forthcoming live DVD, "Off and On Broadway."
The threesome--father Jason Trachtenburg on guitar, keyboards and vocals; mother Tina Piña Trachtenburg on vintage carousel slide projector; and daughter Rachel Piña Trachtenburg on drums--kicks things off Aug. 17 in Hoboken, NJ, is are currently scheduled to hit about 30 cities before winding up back in New Jersey at the end of September.
Also on the group's itinerary is an Aug. 9 performance at New York City's Mercury Lounge, a gig billed as a DVD-release show that will help launch "Off and On Broadway." The disc, which is the trio's first video release, features "performances and day-in-the-life footage that demonstrates exactly how this one-of-a-kind band works," according to a press release.
"Off and On Broadway" follows the act's two audio releases: 2004's "Adventures in Middle America, Vol. 2," and 2001's "Vintage Slide Collection from Seattle, Vol. 1."
The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players "take vintage slide collections that have been found at estate sales, garage sales, thrift stores, etc., and turn the lives of anonymous strangers in to pop-rock musical exposes based on the contents of these slide collections," according to their website.
"We're an indie-vaudeville-conceptual-art-rock-slideshow band," Jason Trachtenberg is quoted as saying in the group's latest bio. "We've got the market cornered. There's no band that can hold a candle to us. In that department."
