Aerosmith's Joe Perry sounds off about Steven Tyler

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, whose band had to cancel its summer tour after frontman Steven Tyler injured himself by falling off the stage during a performance, has expressed frustration with both the tour cancellation and Tyler himself.

In an interview with the Associated Press published on Wednesday (9/16), Perry said he was "pretty [upset]" about the tour being canceled, and about the lack of communication with Tyler.

"I haven't talked to him in over five weeks," Perry reportedly said. "I don't know what's going on with him. I hear he's getting better, but I don't know. I really don't know what's going on with him.

"All I know is, he's got to get his act together," Perry added. "I mean, he and I haven't written a song together alone in the same room in over 10 years, so there's been some changes in paradigm of what Aerosmith is."

Tyler, 61, fell off the stage during an Aug. 5 performance in Sturgis, SD. The singer broke his left shoulder and suffered a cut on his head that required 20 stitches.

"I was pretty [upset], because right before that, he had pulled a muscle in his leg, and we had to take two weeks off and we missed probably seven dates," Perry told the AP.

Tyler's Aug. 5 fall and the previous leg injury Perry mentioned were just two of the many mishaps and health problems that have plagued Aerosmith as of late. Guitarist Brad Whitford sat out the beginning of the group's now-canceled tour to recuperate from surgery he underwent after reportedly hitting his head while exiting his Ferrari; bassist Tom Hamilton missed several shows while recuperating from what his publicist called "non-invasive surgery"; and Perry himself underwent knee surgery earlier this year.

In 2006, Hamilton underwent radiation treatment for throat cancer, and Tyler announced he was battling hepatitis C.

Perry is gearing up for the Oct. 6 release of "Have Guitar, Will Travel," the fifth studio set from his solo gig, The Joe Perry Project.

"The bottom line is that every hole that Aerosmith left, I filled," he said of the forthcoming album.
