Aerosmith scraps remaining tour dates due to Tyler's fall
Veteran rockers Aerosmith, who earlier this week pulled the plug on a brief Canadian run after frontman Steven Tyler suffered injuries in a fall from the stage, have now killed all of the remaining dates on their summer tour with fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top .
"In his current condition, Tyler is unable to tour and the band wants to give him time to get healthy," reads a press release from the band, which further states that ticket refunds for the rest of the tour--which was due to run until mid-September--will be available at the point of purchase.
"Words can't express the sadness I feel for having to cancel this tour," guitarist Joe Perry said in a prepared statement. "I would like to thank our loyal fans for sticking by us through thick and thin and all the good energy they are sending our way. We hope we can get the Aerosmith machine up and running again as soon as possible. I sure am going to miss playing with ZZ Top just as I'm sure the fans are going to miss seeing them playing with us as well. Hope to see you sooner than later."
"All of us here in the Aerosmith organization and all of the people who contribute to making our shows possible are in a state of shock,” guitarist Brad Whitford added. “We never anticipated this tour coming to such a swift and unfortunate ending. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Steven for a speedy recovery and return to good health."
As previously reported, Tyler suffered a broken shoulder and a cut to his head that required stitches after plunging from the stage during an Aug. 5 concert in Sturgis, SD. Video footage of the incident is included below.
Tyler's spill is the latest in an ever-growing string of mishaps and health problems that have plagued Aerosmith as of late. The band postponed several shows earlier this year after Tyler suffered a leg injury; guitarist Brad Whitford sat out the beginning of the current tour leg to recuperate from surgery he underwent after reportedly hitting his head while exiting his Ferrari; bassist Tom Hamilton missed several recent shows while recuperating from what his publicist called "non-invasive surgery"; and Perry underwent knee surgery earlier this year.
In 2006, Hamilton underwent radiation treatment for throat cancer, and Tyler announced he was battling hepatitis C.
