Afroman tours U.S., hits radio fests
Rapper Afroman has hit the road in support of his debut album "The Good Times," playing a mix of headlining dates and radio festivals.
Afroman, whose current itinerary runs through Jan. 26, is tentatively scheduled to travel to Amsterdam in early November to film the video for his next single, "Crazy Rap." The song will be released to radio on Oct. 29.
The album's first single, "Because I Got High," was named Pot Song of the Year at the second annual Doobie Awards. The winners were announced on Sept. 18, although the actual ceremony was canceled because of the Sept. 11 attack.
"The Good Times" (Universal) sits at No. 33 on The Billboard 200 album chart and No. 23 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The single "Because I Got High" first appeared on the soundtrack to the film "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" (Universal Records).
In other Afroman news, the rapper's former manager, Naeema Mansur (also known as Hey Red) filed suit against Afroman (born Joseph Foreman) on Sept. 14, according to published reports, charging breach of contract and unfair competition under business and professions, among other allegations. Mansur's complaint also names Universal Records and UMG Recordings Inc. in the suit.
