Al Fest celebrates all things Yankovic

A "Weird Al" Yankovic fan convention, Al Fest, is scheduled to be held Aug. 1 at the Holiday Inn in Costa Mesa, CA, according to a press release.

Al Fest will celebrate all things Al with performances by comedy musicians, an auction of Weird Al memorabilia and a Weird Al variety show.

The event also will mark the 20th anniversary of Yankovic's film "UHF" during a celebrity panel featuring Victoria Jackson, Gedde Watanabe and the film's director/co-writer Jay Levey.

The stars of "UHF" and members of the comedic musician's band also will be available for photo ops and autograph sessions. Yankovic is not scheduled to attend the event.

The convention will conclude with a screening of the 1989 film, complete with costumed participants acting out the action on the screen.

According to a press release, fans who attend the convention will have the opportunity to receive unlimited fast-pass access to a new Epcot-like attraction created by Yankovic that will feature exhibits on the brain and a 3-D movie. The attraction, "Al's Brain: A Journey Through the Human Brain," opens July 10 at the Orange County Super Fair in Costa Mesa and then will travel to fairs and festivals throughout North America. The fast passes for "Al's Brain" are valid for the Friday preceding or the Sunday following the convention.
