Album Chart: John Mayer scores another No. 1

"Battle Studies," the latest album from John Mayer , came out swinging during its first week in stores, as fans snapped up enough copies of the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/guitarist's fourth studio set to push it to the top of the US album chart.

With first-week sales of 286,000 copies, "Battle Studies" marks Mayer's second album to top The Billboard 200 chart; his second full-length collection, "Heavier Things," debuted at No. 1 in 2003 after moving 317,000 copies during its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan retail figures as reported by Billboard.

In addition to its overall sales tally, "Battle Studies" also earns the distinction of posting this year's third-best sales week for a digital release after selling 129,000 digital copies, according to Billboard.

Trailing "Battle Studies" at No. 2 is Andrea Bocelli 's "My Christmas," which moved 185,000 copies during its most recent week in stores. A trio of additional new releases follow, with Norah Jones ' "The Fall" entering the chart at No. 3 with 180,000 copies; Casting Crowns ' "Until the Whole World Hears" at No. 4 with 167,000 copies; and 50 Cent 's "Before I Self Destruct" at No. 5 with 160,000 copies.

Rounding out the Top 10 are Justin Bieber 's "My World" EP at No. 6 with first-week sales of 137,000 copies; Michael Jackson's "This Is It" at No. 7 with 96,000 copies; the "New Moon" soundtrack at No. 8 with 93,000 copies; Carrie Underwood 's "Play On" at No. 9 with 86,000 copies; and Taylor Swift 's "Fearless" at No. 10 with 84,000 copies.
