Album Chart: Metallica sets record with No. 1 debut

Metallica 's "Death Magnetic" sold 490,000 copies during its first three days in stores, enough to easily top the latest US album chart--even though the competition had a seven-day sales window. "Death Magnetic" was issued on Friday instead of the traditional Tuesday release date for US albums.
According to Billboard, Metallica is the first band to have five albums debut at No. 1 on The Billboard 200. The magazine bases its flagship album chart on Nielsen SoundScan retail sales data.
Young Jeezy 's "The Recession" falls from No. 1 to No. 2 this week, with sales of 90,000. Kid Rock 's "Rock N Roll Jesus" moves up one to No. 3 on sales of 75,000 copies, according to Billboard.
Jessica Simpson 's "Do You Know" moved 65,000 copies to enter the chart at No. 4, while Slipknot 's "All Hope is Gone" spends its second straight week at No. 5 on sales of 50,000.
Rounding out the Top 10 are the Jonas Brothers ' "A Little Bit Longer" at No. 6, The Game 's "LAX" at No. 7, Lil Wayne 's "Tha Carter III" at No. 8, LL Cool J 's "Exit 13" at No. 9, and the "Mama Mia" soundtrack at No. 10.
