Album Chart: Swift maintains 'Fearless' grip on No. 1
Just when you figured everyone in America must already have a copy of Taylor Swift 's "Fearless," the album has outsold all others for the 11th non-consecutive week.
Swift moved 73,000 copies of her latest set during its most recent week in stores, enough to again lay claim to the top spot on The Billboard 200 chart. The feat brings "Fearless" one step closer to matching the 12 weeks that Santana's "Supernatural" spent at No. 1 in 1999 and 2000, which is something no album has accomplished since, according to Billboard. (Billboard bases its flagship chart on Nielsen SoundScan retail data.)
Swift's sales total kept her ahead of metal outfit Lamb of God , whose "Wrath" debuts at No. 2 after moving 68,000 copies during its first week in stores, marking a career high for the band. Following at a distant third is The Jonas Brothers ' "3D Concert Experience" soundtrack, which debuts at No. 3 after selling 50,000 copies.
A dominant showing at this year's Academy Awards helped propel sales of the "Slumdog Millionaire" soundtrack, which sold 44,000 copies, and leaps from No. 22 to No. 4. Among the film's Oscar-leading take of eight total awards were trophies for Best Original Score and Best Original Song ("Jai Ho"), both of which were claimed by composer A.R. Rahman.
Filling out the rest of the Top 10 are Nickelback 's "Dark Horse" at No. 5 with 41,000 copies; Beyonce 's "I Am ... Sasha Fierce" at No. 6 with 35,000 copies; Lady GaGa's "The Fame" at No. 7 with 32,000 copies; The Fray 's self-titled set at No. 8 with 31,000 copies; Jamie Foxx 's "Intuition" at No. 9 with just shy of The Fray's total; and Kanye West 's "808s & Heartbreak" at No. 10 with 26,000 copies sold.
