Alice in Chains prep for headlining run behind new album
Alice in Chains has firmed up a US outing for later this summer behind "Black Gives Way to Blue," the group's first studio album in more than a decade.
The alt-metal icons will perform alongside Kid Rock July 18 at Detroit's Comerica Park before heading across the pond for a European festival leg with Metallica. The Seattle-based band will return to the US for an Aug. 22 performance in Pomona, CA, with Tool and Linkin Park, before kicking off an 11-city headlining trek Sept. 4 in Washington, DC. The full schedule is shown below.
"Black Gives Way to Blue," Alice in Chains' fourth studio set and first since 1995's chart-topping self-titled album, will hit shelves Sept. 29. The forthcoming collection will mark the debut of new AIC vocalist William DuVall, who takes over for the band's original lead singer, Layne Staley, who died of a drug overdose in 2002.
The group recently posted the record's first single, the seven-minute-long track "A Looking in View," at the band's website.
"The song basically speaks to any number of things that keep you balled up inside," singer/guitarist Jerry Cantrell explained in a press release. "It's funny how hard we fight to hang on to a bone we can't pull through a hole in the fence, or how difficult it is to put down the bag of bricks and move on."
A music video for the single will be posted on the group's website in the near future, according to a press release.
During its previous incarnation, the rock outfit, which has received multiple Grammy nominations, sold more than 17 million albums worldwide and recorded nearly a dozen Top 10 singles, including "No Excuses," "Heaven Beside You," "Get Born Again" and "Over Now."
