Arctic Monkeys return for fall shows

British indie rockers Arctic Monkeys launch a new volley behind their latest album this fall with a US/Canadian headlining tour that canvasses most of September.

The outing kicks off Sept. 5 in New York and quickly traverses the continent, with the band hitting 19 cities in total. All dates are shown below. Pre-sale tickets for select shows will be made available beginning today (7/20) through the band's fan-club website.

The group is backing "Worst Favourite Nightmare," which hit stores in April. The set follows the band's 2006 debut, "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not," released in February of last year, which debuted at No. 1 on the British album charts and reached triple-platinum status in the UK by April, as well as gold in Japan, New Zealand, Australia and the Middle East. The album reportedly sold 100,000 copies in the UK on its first day of release.

Arctic Monkeys were formed in Sheffield, England, in 2003, about one year after singer/guitarist Alex Turner and guitarist Jamie Cook, both teenagers at the time, received their first guitars as Christmas presents.

The latest single from the new disc, "Fluorescent Adolescent," will be released Sept. 11 as a digital download and also on 10" vinyl.
