Ari Hest tackles college circuit behind major label bow

Singer/songwriter Ari Hest --who recently signed with Columbia Records after self-releasing an EP and two full-length albums--hits the road this fall to back his first major-label release.

Hest has built his fan base over the last five years by touring extensively. According to Columbia, he has sold more than 20,000 copies of his independent albums at his shows and online.

The upcoming outing is scheduled to run for two months, and focuses on clubs and colleges east of the Mississippi.

"It's a really great feeling to drive into a new city and find that people are coming to my shows and identifying with my music," Hest said in his record-company biography. "I've poured my heart into these songs, so I'm thrilled that they can relate. I'm hoping this album will help me do that on a wider scale."

Hest's Columbia debut, "Someone to Tell," is due in stores on Aug. 10. It features a mix of new songs and reworkings of some material from his previous album, 2002's "Story After Story."
