Beyonce gets go-ahead for Malaysia show
Beyonce 's Oct. 25 concert in Malaysia is going forward as planned after the singer and religious protesters reached an "amicable understanding" over what she would wear on stage.
Malaysia's opposition Islamist party wanted the pop star to cancel her concert in the Southeast Asian country because they are "against western entertainment that promotes hedonism," according to a Reuters report.
The Pan Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) successfully prevented Beyonce from performing in the country in 2007, citing moral issues.
Despite the understanding about Beyonce's costumes, PAS Youth reportedly intends to send a protest note to the government over the decision to host the concert. However, PAS Youth vice-chief Sabki Yusof said there were no plans to disrupt the show, according to the Star/Malaysia.
"We are not against entertainment as long as it is within the framework of our culture and our religion," Yusof said. "We are against Western sexy performances. We don't think our people need that."
Without revealing what the "amicable understanding" was, a spokesperson for the concert promoter said they are confident that Beyonce's concert will once and for all silence international critics and put Malaysia back on track and move it up the ranks in presenting A-list international pop concerts in the region, according to Malaysian media reports.
Earlier this month, Malaysia initially banned Muslims from attending a Black Eyed Peas concert. The ban was reversed but officials said it was up to an individual's "better judgment" whether or not to attend the show.
