Big Bad Voodoo Daddy casts spell on crowds with new album, tour

The swingers in Big Bad Voodoo Daddy suit up for a North American run that supports their recently released album, "Save My Soul."

Dates for the in-progress tour are concentrated in late August, late September and early October, but the group appears poised to remain on the road for some time, as evidenced by an additional handful of shows that are currently scattered from November into next April.

Released on July 8, "Save My Soul" is the follow up to 1999's "This Beautiful Life." The new album, which is the group's first self-produced set, pays tribute to New Orleans, according to bandleader Scotty Morris.

"I've always loved the music that came from there," Morris said in a statement. "On our earlier albums, we've hinted at how important this music is, but this is the first time we've gone completely full-blast with it."

Streaming samples of all 10 of the new album's tracks are posted at the Vanguard Records website. The group's own website features a streaming video of the band's July 10 performance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" of the "Save My Soul" cut "You Know You Wrong."

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy formed in Los Angeles in the early '90s, and brought its big-band sound to the local lounge circuit. The seven-piece group got its big break when several of its songs were featured on the soundtrack to the 1996 cult hit "Swingers."
