Blue October to headline Pick Up the Phone Tour
Alt-rockers Blue October will team up with rapper/producer B.o.B. for a fall tour to benefit suicide-prevention services and raise awareness of mental health issues.
The Pick Up the Phone Tour kicks off Oct. 22 in Charleston, SC, and incorporates some of Blue October's previously announced headlining dates, as well as several new ones. The trek includes a Nov. 6 appearance in Boston with Cracker for the 10th anniversary of the Reason to Live suicide-prevention awareness concert series. B.o.B. will provide opening support during all shows, with the exception of the tour opener in Charleston.
The outing will hit 18 cities, concluding with two nights (Nov. 20-21) in Austin, TX. Details are shown below.
"It has taken 20 years to have the chance to do a tour focusing on mental health issues which have been a daily battle for me for most of my life," said Blue October frontman Justin Furstenfeld--who said he has struggled with bi-polar disorder most of his life--in a press statement. "It's great to finally be a part of a positive, progressive-thinking tour for an important cause which will make a direct impact and help people in desperate situations that need it the most."
Texas-based rockers Blue October released their fifth studio album, "Approaching Normal," in March. The record, which was produced by Steve Lillywhite (U2, Dave Matthews Band) and recorded at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studios, debuted at No. 13 on The Billboard 200 and peaked at No. 4 on the magazine's Top Modern Rock/Alternative Albums chart.
"Approaching Normal" follows the band's 2006 release, "Foiled," which spawned the hit single "Hate Me." That cut landed at No. 2 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart and garnered regular play on mainstream radio stations nationwide.
Atlanta native B.o.B. (also known as Bobby Ray) is set to release his debut solo album, "The Adventures of Bobby Ray," sometime later this year via T.I.'s Grand Hustle imprint.
