Brian Setzer Orchestra rocks the classics
Ahead of its sixth annual Christmas Extravaganza Tour, the Brian Setzer Orchestra will put out a swingin' new studio album with rock-and-roll versions of classical standards.
The record, set to hit the street in September, will cover Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelsohn and others, according to a statement. It will be the Brian Setzer Orchestra's first non-Christmas studio set in seven years. The band's most recent album is 2005's "Dig That Crazy Christmas."
Speaking of the holidays: BSO is scheduled to kick off its US Christmas trek Nov. 17. The outing will take the band from New York to California, with the finale set for Dec. 29 in Oakland, CA. However, more dates may be added, according to Setzer's website. Confirmed shows are listed below.
Brian Setzer Orchestra's Grammy-winning namesake is keeping a busy schedule this year with BSO and The Stray Cats . Setzer will reteam with his Stray Cats bandmates next month for a US summer tour, the rockabilly band's first in 15 years.
Meanwhile, Surfdog Records is releasing two new Setzer items that have been heavily bootlegged: BSO's "One Rockin' Night" DVD, which captures a 1995 performance in Montreal, comprises never-before seen encore performances of "Rumble in Brighton," "Hoodoo Voodoo Doll" and "Brand New Cadillac"; "Red Hot & Live" is a 16-track collection from various Brian Setzer & the Nashvillains shows recorded during that band's 2006 tour of Japan. Release dates for both sets are pending.
Last year, Setzer released his 13th album of original solo material, aptly titled "13." The set ranges from southern-influenced rock to classic rock, new wave and metal.
Throughout his 25-year career and his many projects, Setzer has sold more than 12 million records, according to a press release.
