Briefly: Neil Young, Carly Simon, Fenix TX, Rev. Horton Heat
Neil Young , who released his first Reprise Records album in 1969 and has remained with the label since, has signed a new, "long-term recording agreement" with the company, according to a press release.
Reprise will release several albums under the new deal, beginning with Young's new album, "Prairie Wind," due Sept. 27.
In 2006, Reprise will begin to issue a series of releases culled from Young's extensive archives, featuring "a vast number of unreleased recordings from his entire career, along with long-sought live recordings and other infamous rarities," according to the label.
Carly Simon will perform a pair of September concerts aboard the famous ocean liner Queen Mary 2, which will be taped for an upcoming one-hour PBS-TV special and DVD.
Simon will board the ship in New York City Sept. 2, and will arrive in Southampton, England, Sept. 8.
The PBS special will air during the network's December pledge drive. It will be preceded by the Nov. 22 release of a full concert DVD on Columbia Records.
Fenix TX , which broke up in 2002, will reunite for two Arizona dates, during which the band will record its first live album.
The shows are set for Friday (8/19) at the Club House in Tempe and Saturday (8/20) at the Rialto Theatre in Tucson.
"We were caught up in our creative differences, we never got to say a proper goodbye to our fans, and I know that disappointed a lot of people, me included," frontman Willie Salazar said in a press release. "We got together again and realized that playing together makes us happy. We are familiarizing ourselves with each other and remembering the old songs, and we discovered that we're better musicians, the songs are tight."
"We Three Kings," the first-ever holiday release from Reverend Horton Heat, will hit stores Oct. 4. The 12-track set features the trio's takes on classics including "Frosty the Snowman" and "Run Rudolph Run," as well as an original titled "Santa on the Roof," according to Yep Roc Records.
