Britney Spears battles negative press in Australia
Britney Spears reportedly is very upset over the lip-syncing brouhaha surrounding her first Australian tour, which kicked-off in Perth on Friday (11/6).
Australian media reported that fans walked out of the Perth show after a few songs, saying Spears mimed her performance, was boring and stiff, and did not interact with the audience, according to a Reuters report.
However, several people in Spears' camp say the reports are overblown and have traumatized the pop star.
"Britney is aware of all this and she's extremely upset by it," promoter Paul Dainty told The Australian newspaper.
"She's a human being. I'm embarrassed, with such a big international entourage here with Britney, to be part of the Australian media when I see that kind of totally inaccurate reporting."
Dainty reportedly said it was a total fabrication to suggest that fans had stormed out of the show as early as the third song.
However, he did not deny that Spears lip-synced during the show. "It's been all over the internet for nine months," Dainty said about the allegations. "This show is about an incredible spectacle, which it is."
Virginia Judge, the Fair Trade Minister for the state of New South Wales, ignited the lip-syncing debate last week by saying Australians would not tolerate a Mickey Mouse performance by the pop star, according to Reuters. Judge suggested the promoter print a disclaimer on tickets saying parts of the concerts were pre-recorded.
A spokesperson for the Perth venue told reporters they had not received any complaints from the 17,000 people who attended the concert.
