Buckwheat Zydeco and Lil' Brian tours to crisscross America

Two of zydeco music's premiere party acts, accordionist-bandleaders Buckwheat Zydeco and Lil' Brian, embark on tours at the end of the month.
Buckwheat Zydeco starts his tour in North Carolina on Feb. 1 after a private Super Bowl party in New Orleans on Jan 31. The majority of the scheduled dates have him in the Northeast.
He is touring in support of "Buckwheat Zydeco & Co.," a compilation album from his label, Tomorrow Recordings, due for release on Feb. 5, the Tuesday before Mardi Gras. The CD features multiple tracks from three acts--Buckwheat, Lil' Brian and Sean Ardoin & Zydekool--and includes a nearly 14-minute version of "Hey Joe," best known from Jimi Hendrix's rendition.
Buckwheat Zydeco's last album, "Down Home Live!" (Tomorrow), released last year, was his first concert full-length.
Stanley "Buckwheat" Dural Jr. is the foremost living practitioner of the modern Cajun-hybrid music known as zydeco, which mixes such traditional elements as accordions and washboards with strong influences of rock and roll and, especially, classic African-American R&B.
Another Tomorrow act, Lil' Brian and the Zydeco Travelers, hits the road with the Funky Nation Winter Tour 2002 on Jan. 31. The month-plus of dates are largely in the Midwest. Lil' Brian is a younger, next-generation representative of zydeco, and his music draws distinctly from funk. The tour takes its name from his most recent album, "Funky Nation," which was released in 2000.
