Chris Brown sentenced for beating Rhianna
A judge sentenced Chris Brown yesterday (8/25) to a lengthy probation and substantial stint of community labor for his February attack on his then-girlfriend, fellow R&B singer Rihanna.
Brown will spend the next five years on probation, and was ordered to do 180 days of community labor after pleading guilty in June to felony assault charges, The Los Angeles Times reported.
According to the L.A. Times report, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg "made it clear at Tuesday's hearing that she wanted Brown to perform physical labor, rather than community service in Virginia," his state of residence, and said that she had a received a letter from Richmond Police Chief Bryan Norwood indicating that Brown would be "removing graffiti, picking up trash, washing cars or maintaining grounds."
Brown also was ordered to attend a year-long domestic-violence program, and must stay at least 100 yards away from Rihanna, unless they are attending an "entertainment industry event," at which time he must remain at least 10 yards away. Schnegg reportedly warned Brown that any violation of his probation would land him in prison.
The L.A. Times further reported that a probation officer's report filed with the court Tuesday claims Brown and Rihanna were allegedly involved in two unreported incidents "related to domestic violence" prior to the February assault that left Rihanna with a bruised and bleeding face.
The first incident allegedly occurred about three months earlier while Brown and Rihanna were in Europe, at which time they got into a "verbal dispute." The report alleges that, during the argument, she slapped him and he responded by shoving her into a wall.
The second incident allegedly took place three weeks before Brown's much-publicized assault on Rihanna, at which time the couple got into an argument while driving in Barbados, the probation officer's report claims. Brown allegedly exited the vehicle and broke the front driver- and passenger-side windows.
The report said that neither incident was reported to authorities, and Brown was not accused of any criminal wrongdoing.
